Delay is Not Denial

Today, I pray you are encouraged by this post to actually trust God and submit to His sovereign will.

“Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?”” (John 11:40 NKJV)

In John 11 we notice that Lazarus became gravely ill. His sisters, Mary and Martha, sent for Jesus to come and heal their brother. Well, Jesus received information about Lazarus, yet He didn’t go into Bethany immediately. Instead, Jesus waited TWO days in the place where He was. Makes you wonder huh? Why did Jesus wait? What was He trying to prove? But here’s what Jesus said about Lazarus’ condition: “When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.” (John 11:4 KJV)

As we read on we find out Lazarus died. In the midst of relaying this to the disciples, Jesus gives a striking statement: “Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.” (John 11:14-15 KJV)

Here’s what shocked me: “Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already. Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:” (John 11:17-18 KJV) In the NKJV it reads that Bethany was about two miles away from Jerusalem. 🤔 Jesus could’ve walked approximately two miles to heal Lazarus, yet He chose to wait until Lazarus was dead and was in the tomb four days. His delay had a SPECIFIC purpose!

Jesus’ delay was so that many would believe! He waited until the situation was in a dead state before He decided to act. You may be at your wits’ end, but let me tell you God is still able to perform. He is still able to bring you out of your situation. He wants you and others to see His miracle working power. He wants to reveal His glory in your life. You have to believe and trust Him, even when it seems like He isn’t answering you or responding in the way you want. You have to trust that He will meet all of your needs according to His purpose and timing!

Will you trust Him today?
