New Birth

“Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?”

—John 3:9 KJV

Do you remember the day you were born again? How did you feel? Do you remember the thoughts that ran through your mind?

Coming into the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is so liberating. I remember the day I heard about the sacrifice He made for me and how through Him, I could have life and life more abundantly. I had this overwhelming feeling of joy and I just wanted to share the Good News with everyone. I mean, who wouldn’t want to serve a God like this?—the very person who came and laid down His life for a people just so they can be reconciled with the Father? If that isn’t love, I don’t know what is!

Quick question: Have you ever had a hunger that just wasn’t satisfied no matter what you ate? Like what you’ve been experiencing or EATING just isn’t enough. You want something different? Well that day came for me on July 14th, 2011. It was the day I decided to stop allowing sin to dictate my life. I’d gotten tired of that stale taste of sin so on that day, I wanted something real, something fulfilling, something NEW, something SATISFYING! Living a life of sin was just played out and I was tired of wandering aimlessly and heading NOWHERE fast!

Have you ever been in that place? Or are you in that place now?

Thing is, some people believe the lie that life has to continue the way that it is—that there’s no way they can begin again—better yet, be born again. They think that the same cycles and dysfunctions have to continue. They don’t believe they can become the person God predestined them to be! Just like Nicodemus, they begin asking questions about things that just don’t make sense to them. Nicodemus asked, “How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?” (John 3:4 KJV) Nicodemus was basically asking, “How can we be born again when we have already been born?” Good question! To answer that I would chime in and say to first acknowledge your current state. Two, REPENT! Three, accept the will of God for your life. Delight in God and His Word so that you can be empowered to fulfill His purpose for your life.

To repent means to “feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one’s wrongdoing or sin; to have a change of mind; to turn from doing evil.” Not only do you acknowledge your state of sin, you feel bad about it AND you make the decision to turn away from it. That’s what it means to repent.

When we realize the state that we are in and see our true need for Jesus, we welcome Him into our lives. We give Him place in our hearts and we allow Him to be King.

When we repent, we become a new creature. Second Corinthians 5:17 says “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Not only that, we step out of our old man and we put on the NEW man! “That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22-24 KJV)

We allow the Word of God to renew our minds so that we can walk in God’s will and ways. We become more and more like Jesus—being transformed from glory to glory! (2 Corinthians 3:18)

Don’t think you can’t start again! As long as you have breath in your body, you are given the opportunity to begin again—to experience a transformed life through the Holy Spirit. A new birth is needed in order to inherit the kingdom of God! Don’t believe the lies of the enemy. You, too, can be born again to experience the fullness of God!

“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

—2 Corinthians 3:18 KJV
