“Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise Him again—my Savior and my God!” (Psalm 42:5) As I laid in bed balled up in fetal position, I couldn’t help but to feel defeated. I’d grown tired of the enemy’s tactics and I felt as if I didn’t have any strength left to fight. Every ounce of hope was fading away as the darts of the enemy kept coming. “Lord, where are You? I’m tired with no strength to fight. I need help.” He reminded me in that moment that in my weakness, His grace is sufficient. I arose from my bed of despair and called on the name of Jesus. Nothing seemed to happen. Has that ever happened to you? It’s not like He wasn’t present. I felt like He wanted me to realize who I am and the power that is within me. I then remembered the declarations I’d written down and I started confessing some of them. “Greater is He that is within me, than he that’s in the world. I am more than a conqueror. I am an overcomer. I have the power and authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and nothing shall by any means hurt me.” I felt my faith arising. I felt my strength returning. A praise escaped from my mouth and I exalted the name of the Lord.
In those moments where we feel like the enemy has the upper hand, we are to gird up our loins and fight—fight with the Word of God. God has given us His Word and it’s one of our most powerful weapons against the enemy. “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between join and marrow…” (Hebrews 4:12, NLT).
Let the Word of God strengthen you. Remember who you are in Christ and the power and authority that has been given to you to use. Don’t allow the enemy to keep you in a place where you feel defeated. Remember, you’re fighting from a place of victory and not defeat! Use your sword!
