- Agreement: the harmony of opinion, action, or character; an arrangement as to a course of action or feeling; a position or result of agreeing.¹
What is your sign? Haven’t we all been asked this question before?
When I was a preteen, I became a lover of horoscopes. I bought magazines just to read my life’s prediction for the day and week. I remember coming across an article describing a typical Gemini. From everything that was listed, I thought “this is so me!” I came in agreement with what I read and I started thinking that I had a split personality—one good and one bad. As a result, I named the good one Shameka and the bad one Nicole. Nicole would always manifest when I was around a large group of people. And it was as if this particular personality was driven by me drinking dark caffeinated drinks. I would drink those drinks as if they were drugs and I would become this person that was far from who I really was. If people wanted to see me act out, all they had to do was say the word. Sounds crazy huh? All the enemy needs is a small opening. Once you start believing something that is far from the truth, he will continue to add on to what you believe! I know this sounds foolish but when your mind is not grounded in the Word of God, you’ll believe anything. You will come into agreement with what seems to be right or okay, not fully understanding that you’re coming in agreement with the kingdom of darkness.
With the horoscopes, I was amazed that so many of the predictions came true. I think that’s what kept drawing me to them. I had no clue of the underlying dangers of following horoscopes. But I was always eager to read to see what would happen in my life on a particular day and/or week. I guess you can say I became addicted to reading them. When buying magazines, I would always go to the back to the horoscopes section before reading an article. I even subscribed to have horoscope readings sent to my email.
At family gatherings, Nicole would manifest. I would dance oh so provocatively. And to add to that, I just knew I was the stuff and no one could tell me otherwise. PRIDEFUL! I would “pop my back” in front of strangers and even family members. It always seemed like the right thing to do since no one tried to stop us (me and two of my younger cousins). Instead, we were being cheered on for our provocative moves. I wonder why the grown-ups were okay with this type of behavior? Why didn’t anyone stop us from dancing and acting like that?
When I was in junior high, I became a member of the Black Expressions book club. I think it was the promotion that attracted me. I could get five books for $0.99 (I think! It may have been $1.99) and a free gift. Thing is, as a member I had to purchase a book or two per month. I would spend my allowances on buying books. It was then that I started buying and reading books by the author Zane. I remember reading the one titled Nervous where the main character, Jonquinette, had a multiple personality disorder, MPD for short. Her alter ego was named Jude. I thought that I had MPD, too, since I already displayed to have multiple personalities. After that, other personalities (demons) started manifesting in my mind and I was surely on a path that was headed straight to destruction and didn’t even know it. It’s a wonder that I didn’t lose my mind. Just remembering the many roles I played, how in the world am I sane today? The blood of JESUS!! That was so dangerous! Just imagine how my life would be today if I hadn’t stopped believing those lies.
In addition to me thinking I had MPD, there was one personality that was very rebellious. I became curious about a lot of things and I would do things even if I was told not to do them. With all of the personalities I was influenced by, the rebellious one just had to have its way. As a result of my curiosity, I became exposed to porn and not too long after that, sex. Do you see how one agreement opened the door for so much to come into my life?
I had the hardest time getting back on track. I was double-minded and tried to be so many other people. I wasn’t comfortable being me because I didn’t know the real me. I’d taken on so many personalities that the true me was buried underneath so many masks. My true identity was unrecognizable and the enemy was trying to make sure I stayed in that place. I would probably be in a mental institution now, had it not been for my mother. It wasn’t until I started reading a devotional my mom bought, that I saw the light of God’s truth. I came to the page titled “Of Horoscopes and Other Nonsense”. When I say that reading changed my life!!! I was exposed to the truth and stopped depending on horoscopes to predict my future! I even stopped thinking I had a split personality. I had to put to death all those people I’d created and allowed to dictate my life.
With all of this being said, be very careful of what you come into agreement with! You don’t know what road it will take you down! Be careful! Demonic forces are sent to kill, steal and destroy! Be careful of what you read. Before you agree with anything, make sure it comes in alignment with the Word of God. Be sober! Be alert! Stay on guard! Use discernment! And most importantly, make sure you are seeking God, communing with Him and reading and studying His Word DAILY. By doing so will keep you awake to the enemy’s tactics, traps, and lies.
If you are a follower of horoscopes, you can repent today and turn your heart back to God. If you are a non-believer and desire to know what the future holds for you, you can turn to God and come in agreement with the life He predestined for you—a life of abundance in Him. Will you follow Him and receive the abundant life He has for you?
Blessed by this? Stay tuned for the upcoming posts on the topic of Agreements!
God bless you,
Shameka Nicole
All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. —Isaiah 47:13, NIV
There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you. You shall be blameless before the LORD your God. For the nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not appointed such for you. The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me [ ] from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear,” —Deuteronomy 18:10-15, NKJV
“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” —John 8:32, NKJV
